When I finally figured out I was moving out of the dorm halls and into an apartment in my college town, I decided it was time to get a dog I could call my own. I turned to my roommate, Joe, and asked him if he would mind if I got a Pug. He said no, so we began searching online and in newspapers. At first, I thought it would be a great idea to get a newborn Pug puppy from a breeder, but then I found KPR's website through Animal Planet's www.petfinder.com. As I began searching through the adoptable pugs, my mouse rolled over the picture of Flopsy and I fell in love with her even before I met her face to face. I immediately put in my application and waiting anxiously for my home visit. As soon as Flopsy walked through the door of our apartment, she made herself right at home, exploring and finding a comfortable place on the couch. That night, I received the email saying that, if I wished, Flopsy could find her forever home here with me. I was ecstatic. The next day I went out and bought everything I needed to care for a dog - treats, dog bowl, dog food, toys, a dog bed, etc. I had to wait for her heartworm treatment, but I didn't care.

I went and picked her up that Monday night from her foster home. I filled out the paper work and put her in the car, where she seemed to settle down quickly, almost like she knew she was going to a place where she would never have to leave again. My roommate was sitting on the couch when we walked through the door and she just went right up to him, sat on the couch, and put her head in his lap and ever since, the two have been bonded like nothing I have ever seen before. Although she does sleep with me and kicks me out of the bed (for being a smaller dog she takes up quite a lot of room when she sleeps), she follows him around and has grown very attached to Joe.

She is going to be spayed in the middle of September, now that her days of harsh heart worm treatments are over. She is beginning to learn to roll over and jump and has already learned to sit and to stay. Since she came from a foster home where there were many dogs to keep her company when the foster parents were gone, we are working on a slight separation anxiety issue (she is not appreciative when one of us has to go to work or to school) but it is getting better over time. Many of her behavior issues have been corrected and she knows when to scratch at the door when she needs to go outside.

In all, I don't think I could have gotten a better dog. She's perfect in every way.
