Bob's Pals for Pugs!

Dan & Mandy Justice,
in memory of Brent Black

Bob (# 753) is a 5 year old blind pug that relies on his other senses to successfully navigate the world. Meet him and you’ll see he wants the same things as any other pug. He craves companionship and wants to be held and petted. He curls up next to his foster to cuddle, but will also curl up next to the other pugs in the home on the puggy bed. He gets along well with other dogs and even likes cats. Bob loves to eat and certainly enjoys his treats. He is big eater and is heavily motivated by food. He likes to roam around outside and explore all the smells in the yard. While he is hard of hearing, he still responds well to certain pitches. In fact, he has been taught that a double clap means “come here” and so you’ll see him tilt his head towards you and then head your way when he hears this sound. Snap your fingers in the house and he’ll come to you for a pat on the head. Bob is a good boy that sleeps without a peep through the night in his crate. He does best on a schedule and does go outside to potty. He is exceptionally smart and easily trained.

Check out the internet for more information on living with a blind dog. Dogs are so much more adaptable than us humans because they rely on senses we seldom think about and those senses are greater than our own. Dogs rely heavily on their sense of smell, taste, touch, etc. In fact, a dogs nose is 1000 X better than ours and can detect scents in the air we would never smell. A dog can feel and perceive things that we never even notice, such as vibrations, movements, light, air, & pressure changes, etc.

Molly (# 920) is an adorable 3.5 year old female pug that lives to please her family. As you can see in the photo she loves to play with toys and is a master at tug-of-war. She also spins in circles putting the best figure skater to shame. She is energetic, but by no means hyperactive. She would be great with kids who would run and play with her.

Molly is kennel trained. She is housebroken, but her fosters are still trying to figure out the communication for when she needs to go out so they are just routinely taking her out every 3-4 hours and she will go to the bathroom at that time.

Adopted - August, 2010

Bruce (# 768) is a beautiful, well-behaved pug who is estimated to be somewhere between 2.5 to 3.5 years old. He is fully potty trained and has had no accidents in his foster home.  He obeys “sit”, “down”, and “stay” commands and is great on the leash. He doesn’t even bolt when given the chance. His foster says (and I quote), “He loves people and will come running back when called (unlike our other insubordinate pug).” He is an eager-to-please energetic pug that wants to be with people every minute. He is very friendly and gets along well with the other pug in the home and even the cat. The cat doesn’t return his affection though, but he doesn’t give up! Bruce does desire the alpha position so while he gets along great with the other pug in the home he will be a little pushy sometimes posturing for attention and nudging the little girl pug off the lap he wants to sit in. In addition to being good with dogs and cats, he also gets along great with human children. He loves to sleep in bed with humans and is a big, warm, fuzzy snuggler!

Bruce has been described by his foster as a “10” on the pug cuteness scale because of his beautiful black face and perfectly curly pug tail. He’s a hefty fellow tipping the scale at 30 lbs, but isn’t fat, just big-boned.

Adopted - August, 2010

Corky # 919 is an adorable pug puppy. This 4 month old is smart, inquisitive, and easy to train. He has already taken to sleeping in a crate without a sound. He’s had a great start on potty training.

Adopted - August, 2010

PJ (# 772) & DeeOgee (# 773) are a bonded pair and need to be adopted together.

PJ is 4 years old and weighs around 15 lbs. She is a small gorgeous girl with a great personality. She is always quick to add her 2 cents into any disagreement among the pack and can be a bit bossy with her sister, deeOgee. She shows no food aggression and has no potty issues. She is great with the kids in the home and the other dogs, but doesn’t care for cats. She likes to sit on the back of the couch or beside you. She does love attention! While she doesn’t care for a car ride, she will tolerate it. Amazingly enough though this pug is a sweetheart when it comes to baths and nail trims.

deeOgee is a 4 year old female weighing about 12 lbs. She has a great personality just like her sis, but is more laid back and submissive. She doesn’t even mind cats. Her favorite place to sit is on the back of the couch near your head. She love attention and when she wants more will jump on your lap and give you kisses. She can give five! She likes to paw at you when she wants something. Also like her well behaved sister she is potty trained and no trouble when it comes to baths and nail trims, but unlike her sister she is good with car rides and doesn’t bark at anything.

Adopted - August, 2010

Freida # 794 is very much a little princess. Her fosters call her Thumbellina because she only weighs 13 pounds and is 3 years old. She has never messed in the house or bothered anything. She loves attention and likes being a lap dog. She just ignores the two cats. Even though she had a horrible case of demodex, her coat is already shiny after two dips. She also had an ear and eye infection, but now her ear infection is almost gone and her eyes are clearing up too. She loves to ride in the car. She also loves to snuggle up in bed with you.

Adopted - August, 2010

Jett (# 779) is a very energetic approx. 1 year old pug that gets along great with all of his foster brothers. He is very loving. He plays hard all day, but sleeps the whole night through. He is crate trained and housebroken. Loves to eat and will whine softly while you're getting it ready. He didn't know what treats were when he got to his foster home, but he definitely knows now! Jett is a wonderful little boy!!!

Adopted - August, 2010

Jake (# 776) is a very smart little puppy. He knows when the lights go off that it is time for bed so he runs into the bedroom, opens the door to his crate, and gets in. His foster parents have him in a routine where it is up at 6am, out to potty, and then to the human bed for some snuggle time until 8am. He loves to snuggle! He is great with cats and other dogs. He likes to cuddle on the couch and go for car rides. Like most puppies he is active and energetic. His fosters call him a "playing machine".

Jake is doing very well with his potty habits and is about 90% house trained. His new family is just going to need to continue a routine and provide some positive reinforcement. He is a little food aggressive so he is fed off to himself, but otherwise he is great with others, even kids. He has been treated for Keratitis and it may be temporary, but it may also be something that will require medication long term.

This cute little guy prances around when he walks like, "hey, look at me!". He is very loving and would make a wonderful addition to any family. He is not quite one year old.

Adopted - August, 2010

Meet this little sweetie named Roxie (# 479). Roxie is about 10 years old, in excellent health and is just adorable. She enjoys riding in the car and walks perfecting on a leash. Roxie is crate-trained and spends her free time in her crate napping or chewing on her rawhide bones. She likes her crate door left open so she can go in whenever she wants. Roxie gets along well with other dogs, but if she needs some "me" time, she will retreat to her cage. She is a pretty low maintenance type of gal -- doesn't bark a lot and will only jump on furniture if invited.

Adopted - July, 2010

Here’s Moses (# 1002), a super friendly and sweet boy that gets along well with dogs, cats and kids. Matter of fact, he hasn’t met anyone on two or four legs that he doesn’t like! Moses is approximately 5-6 years old, loves attention and will sit next to you just so he can get a healthy dose. He’s crate trained, likes car rides, walks, and playing with stuffed toys. Moses is always up for a good game of tug-a-war with his stuffed bone.

Adopted - July, 2010

Meet Rex (#1011), a handsome 10 month old little ‘Bug’. He has the Pug build but the beautiful Boston Terrier brindle markings. Rex is a hefty boy already weighing in at 15 pounds but the vet says he isn't over weight.... yet! He's very timid but once he warms up and learns he can trust you he's very sweet. Rex is doing great with potty training and just recently started using the doggy door. All he needs now is someone that will love and work with him as he is still very much a puppy.

Brutus (# 886) the “Bug” (Pug / Boston Terrier mix) is just 2 years old and a very good boy. His foster mom says he’s very sweet, he loves other dogs, absolutely adores children, and is especially gentle with babies, but he also loves the toddlers. Any time the kids are sitting in one of the chairs or on the sofa, Brutus gets up and lays down on top of them, between them, wherever he can! He loves playing with his foster Bug brother so much that we think he would like to have a canine friend, but would probably be okay alone too, as long as someone was willing to walk him and play with him. Brutus has typical Bug energy that would need an outlet. He's a little timid when he first meets someone, and is scared in situations he is unfamiliar with. We highly recommend that he is kept on a harness and leash at all times when he is out of his comfort zone, since he will try to bolt. We think Brutus has not had much experience in the "outside" world, and until he needs someone who can be patient with him and help him get socialized, get used to going places and coming home. Brutus will chase cats in the house, but he would really love to have a fenced in yard to run in. He loves to chase his foster Bug brother (and vice versa) all over the yard, running as fast as they can.

Adopted - July, 2010

Bella (# 761) is a lovable and cuddly 3 1/2 year old fawn pug. Bella loves to go on walks and is at ease with other dogs and cats. She is especially sweet with children. She is completely housebroken. She has lots of energy but also loves to snuggle and watch tv on the couch. At night Bella sleeps in her own bed in her foster mom's room and stays in a crate while she is gone to work. Bella is a fashion diva and loves to get dressed up. She has quite a wardrobe that her original owners sent with her. She loves to play tug with her stuffed snoopy and hippo. Bella is currently taking a Benedryl daily for allergies and may need a prescription dog food.

Adopted - June, 2010

Penelope (# 778) is a spunky pug who we believe is about two-years-old. She loves to play with her rope toys and get in a great workout with a trail run alongside her people! She also loves other animals and enjoys play dates with her friends Winston and Maria! Penelope is incredibly sweet and loves to cuddle. She has had some trouble with kidney stones, but she’s had some great care and seems to be coming out on the other side with new energy! With lots of positive encouragement and regular potty breaks, she’s making excellent progress in re-learning house rules. Penelope is the perfect addition to her family, and she is so very grateful for her new home!

Adopted - May, 2010

Wendy (# 759) is a talented little pug.  In fact, she is what is known as a “triple threat”. She sings, she dances, and she acts.

She’ll do a cute “wiggly dance” when excited and she sings upon request. She’ll act like an alpha at times, but then she’ll also follow the lead of other dogs in the home.  She enjoys being around other dogs.  She also enjoys sitting in your lap and receiving attention.

She is estimated to be around 6 years old and she weighs approx. 23 pounds.  She is house trained and will go right to the door when she needs to go out.  She tolerates being crated, but doesn’t love it.  She sleeps through the night without a peep.  She is friendly and loveable.

Adopted - May, 2010

Scooter (# 782) is a great family dog having grown up around kids and other dogs. At 3 years old he is young and active. At 12-13 pounds he is small and petite. This wonderful little pug is potty trained and crate trained.

Scooter has a ton of energy, but will also wait patiently beside you if you are busy with something else. He enjoys eating and playing. He also enjoys sleeping in bed with his foster family. Scooter is a great guy.

Adopted - May, 2010

Lincoln (# 766) has a great big goofy and lovable personality. He is so grateful to be out of a shelter and among people and other dogs. The vet gave him a clean bill of health and said he doesn’t know how he lost his eye, but suspects it could be a birth defect. He loves to play with other dogs and they have a ball playing with him. He loves to watch TV with his remaining good eye. Every time dogs are on TV he goes crazy. It's really funny to watch! At night he sleeps in his fosters bed with the other spoiled dogs. They say after a few minutes of crawling across their heads to lick them to death that he finally goes to the foot of the bed and sleeps peacefully all through the night. During the day when no one is home to watch him he is placed in a single room where he goes right in and lays down on his bed. He never makes a mess and seems to be well potty trained.

His foster family says that anyone would be lucky to have this wonderful pug and that no one would ever be disappointed having a friend like Lincoln. In fact, they told us that everyone that goes to their home to visit wants to take Lincoln home with them! He is loved by the entire foster family and is great with kids. He’s always just happy to have someone to play with and love on. Companionship is all it takes to for this 4 year old beautiful black pug to be content.

Adopted - May, 2010

Harley (# 728) is a 7 year old short, stocky, macho pug that just loves to hang out in the room with you. He is content to lie at your feet or cuddle up next to you & watch TV. He enjoys going for walks & is perfect on a leash. Harley knows to “heel” and marches right next to you flawlessly matching your pace.

It is important to point out that Harley can be socially awkward & a little bit stubborn. He doesn’t like cats so he may growl, bark, and chase them or he may ignore them. It just depends on his mood. For the most part he gets along great with other dogs and will even share food and toys, but again, he does have his moments. For this reason we recommend he not be placed in a home with cats or children.

He is crate trained and his potty habits are excellent. He comes when you call him and is learning to sit on command. Best of all, he is extremely low maintenance and even enjoys sleeping in really late.

Adopted - May, 2010

Betsy (# 714) loves children and enjoys all the attention and playtime that comes with being part of a family. She never meets a stranger. This energetic 8 year old Pug Mix is always ready to play ball and go for a walk. She is active and likes a good game of tug-of-war with her rope toy. She gets along well with other dogs, is smart, and easy to train. She adapts well to new situations and enjoys meeting new people. This peppy and playful pug mix wants to be the center of attention.

Foxy Lady ( # 710) is 3 years old. She was surrendered by a family who had a new baby and did not feel they could afford to take care of both a baby and a dog. Foxy stopped eating, and her family thought she was refusing to eat because she was upset about the new baby. Once she came to KPR, the vet determined that Foxy has a condition called eosinophilis myositis. This is a disease that can affect any dog, normally around the age of 3. It affects the muscles, and can cause the jaw to lock, which is what happened in Foxy's case. When she first came to foster care, she was so weak she could not lift her head, stand or sit...but her spirit was still intact and her tail was wagging. Foxy had a surgical procedure done to help unlock her jaws, and is now eating quite well and can even eat kibble on her own. She is holding her head up and is trying to get her feet under her so that she can push up and go play with the other dogs, which she so badly want to do. Foxy's muscles have completely atrophied, however, and the vet has told us that if they are too far gone, there may be nothing that can be done for Foxy. We must wait through the next few months and see if she regains any use of her muscles and is able to sit and stand and control her bowels. We are all hoping and praying that this sweet little girl can make it through, she is a very loving little girl and her wagging tail constantly shows how grateful she is to have a second chance.

Adopted - May, 2010

Otis (# 765) is an absolutely adorable Pug puppy. He came to KPR with a malformed liver and an esophageal stricture or an area near the stomach that has scar tissue and made the esophagus very narrow.  Otis has had multiple surgeries to help his conditions.  Sadly, there is no cure for the liver problem, but it is being managed with medications for the remainder of his life.  The good news is that Otis has no idea that his liver isn't functioning properly and is simply enjoying all the love and happiness he has received since coming to KPR.

Meet Chewie (# 699), a super cute male pug that is approximately 4-5 years old. While Chewie is a bit shy at first, once he makes friends he is quite loving and affectionate. He has been doing very well in his foster home, getting along great with the other dogs in the house. Chewbie’s foster mom says that he is like most pugs and loves food, but he is not aggressive.

Adopted - April, 2010

Meet Charlie (# 828), a black male Pug/Boston Terrier mix, also known as the “Bug”, who is approximately 1 ½ to 2 years old. Charlie is in great health and is very affectionate once he establishes a trust with you. He loves his chews and runs around in large circles when he gets excited! Charlie has some nervous tendencies when he hears loud noises or quick movements. His foster home continues to work with him on this and we believe once he is in a stable environment he will continue to flourish. Charlie has done really well with his foster home’s 12 and 13 year old grandchildren, but tended to hide when younger children were chasing him. For that reason, we would like to place Charlie in a home with older children. Charlie gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is crate trained and eager to please.

Adopted - April, 2010

Kachy (# 850) and Simon (# 851) are a pair of bonded pugs that must be adopted together. Kachy is a 5.5-year old female pug that absolutely adores her 2.5-year old brother Simon -- so much that she never lets him out of her sight. Like your typical pug, this pair is crazy about human contact. They are crated while their foster parents are at work and sleep in bed with them and three other pugs at night. Both dogs are housebroken and enjoy their privacy during feeding time. Simon loves playing with all the other dogs in the house, but Kachy prefers Simon more. She does tolerate the other dogs, but she doesn't like the other dogs getting within her "bubble" (her "bubble" consist of mostly facial area). Once the other dogs figure that out, she is fine.

Adopted - April, 2010

Perseus' Pals for Pugs

Terry Wilson
Lyna Pena
Jenni Webb Reynolds

Perseus (# 698) is a lovable 11-year old male pug. Perseus or Percy came to KPR when he began fighting with the other younger pugs in the house. When Percy came into the rescue, he was first seen by a vet and temperament tested. He passed with flying colors! Percy gets along fine with his foster pug brothers and sisters – he actually enjoys playing with the younger dogs. Percy is very loving and gets really excited when his foster mom or dad comes home. He has an ultra-soft jet black coat and the cutest white muzzle.

Adopted - April, 2010

This Popeye (# 1003) may not like to eat spinach, but he is sure to capture your heart. Popeye is a 9-month old fawn male pug that came to KPR after his owners had to transition into housing that would not allow pets. Since Popeye is so young, he’s got a lot of puppy energy. He is missing one eye from a previous injury. Even though he has one eye, he gets along great. Popeye is housetrained and catches on to things quickly. Popeye is a bit of a ladies man as he adores his foster mom. He gets along great with other dogs and loves kids.

Adopted - April, 2010

Lillie Mae (# 887) is a pug's bug - a Boston terrier/pug cross - that at first glace looks as much like a pug as any bug can. Fawn with a black mask, it is only her Boston ears and Boston shaped face that gives away her true heritage. Lillie Mae is 2-years old and her foster dad describes her as a smart, sweet and happy girl with a tail that almost never stops wagging. She loves all people but since she likes to be the boss, she will only be placed in a home with a submissive male or no other dogs. Lillie Mae has been known to bark at and chase the house cat, although it's only meant in good doggie fun. She loves kids and would love to spend her days playing fetch in the backyard. Her foster dad says that she loves to fetch so much that she will fetch literally anything you throw and bring it right back to you and drop it at your feet. While Lillie Mae is tons of fun to play with, she also loves to cuddle and wants to be in your lap as much as possible. Lillie Mae is completely housebroken and crate trained.

Adopted - April, 2010

Hi my name is Kona (# 890). I am about one year old and I am full of puppy energy. I weigh about 22 pounds and I’ve heard that I am just as cute as a button. I really look forward to my foster parents coming home from work and like to greet them in only a way I can. Since jumping is part of my greeting, I might accidentally knock a little person down. I love playing with my foster pug brother and also like to play with cats! Like most pugs, I enjoy laying on the couch with my foster parents. I have many toys, but my favorite toy is a bone. I sleep in a kennel at night and am oh so loveable.

Adopted - April, 2010

Madison (# 876) is a delightful 6 year old pug that is just flourishing in her foster home and looking forward to finding that special someone that will love and care for her the rest of her life.

Madison is crate trained and will sometimes just go hang out in her kennel when she tires of playing with the other dogs in the home. At night she prefers to sleep in bed with humans. In the morning she is up at 8am and lets you know she needs to go out and wants her breakfast. Her little tongue hangs out the side of her mouth due to some missing teeth. As with all KPR pugs, she has received vet care and is up to date on all shots and preventatives. She has also been spayed. During the day Madison likes to curl up beside you on the couch and nap. She gets along great with other dogs and also with children. She enjoys walks, but still needs more training on the leash. She does get cold easily and so can be seen walking in a fashionable doggy coat. She is small, weighing just 16 lbs.

Adopted - April, 2010

Meet Maggie (# 877), a sweetheart that is 5 years old. Maggie is a shadow to her foster mom, following her wherever she goes. This pretty pug wound up in a Northern Indiana shelter at Thanksgiving time because her family lost their jobs and were not able to financially care for her anymore. Maggie is adjusting well in her foster home, learning to play with other dogs. She still hasn’t caught on to playing with toys yet, but we imagine she will be doing that in no time as she learns from her foster canine friends. Maggie is crate trained and is housebroken if kept on a routine schedule. She loves to be petted and loved and is ready for her forever home.

Adopted - April, 2010

Curly (# 735) is a well mannered 8 year old pug that is potty trained and crate trained. His foster mom said he has not had any accidents in the house. Curly comes when you call his name and minds commands, such as “sit” very well. He is a gentle boy that gets along great with children and other dogs. He doesn't even mind cats. Toys aren’t any big deal to him, but he loves to play with a ball. He also loves the great outdoors and enjoys romping around in the yard, camping, boating, etc.

Curly gets around just fine with one eye and has lived this way for years so it is no big deal to him. He is a good natured pug that just adapts well to any environment. This wonderful pug is up to date on all shots and preventatives. He also recently had his teeth cleaned so that he would look his best for his new family.

Adopted - April, 2010

Bruce (# 756) is a fearless 4 month old black male pug with boundless energy. He’s funny, full of personality, and loves bones. He needs to be potty trained and while learning to pee outside, he is still having accidents inside. He is crate trained. He has been treated for Demodex.

Adopted - April, 2010

Jenny (# 742) or “J-Bug” as she is sometimes called is 7-8 years old and will talk to you through barking and dancing in a circle when she is excited. She is very vocal and very cute. She has a sweet, gentle personality. This trusting pug will relax entirely when lying beside you or in your lap. She often sleeps with just the tip of her tongue protruding slightly out of her mouth, a look that her foster mom and dad have fallen in love with. She is a healthy 24 lbs and recently received a dental. She is potty trained, crate trained, and also potty pad trained (she’ll use a potty pad if you are unable to take her out).

Adopted - April, 2010

Bogey (# 767) is an adorable, energetic Boston Terrier Pug mix (Bug) that is around 5 months old. He loves hopping around, running in the snow, playing with his numerous toys as well as playing with other dogs. He prances when he walks and wags his tail constantly. He is a little ball of cuteness and makes his fosters crack up all the time. He is still learning good potty habits, but has slowly been improving about going outside each day. He is great with his foster brother and follows him around all the time wanting to play.

Adopted - April, 2010

Charley (# 757) is a laid back 4 month old puppy with a great personality. He enjoys chewing on bones and playing with toys. His funny antics keeps his fosters laughing and they say he has a great personality. He is young, but doing very well with potty training. Reinforcement will need to be continued by his forever home. He is smart, cute, and cuddly. He has been treated for Demodex.

Adopted - April, 2010

Otie (# 749) is a sweet, petite little guy. He is also very young at just 25 months of age. His foster describes him as a “little doll” because he only weighs about 12-14 lbs. His foster mom said that she has never had a foster fit into her house so quickly. Otie waltzed in, introduced himself to the other pugs, and just settled right in. His tightly curled tail stayed rolled up on his back even on the first day in a new place. He is playful with the other pugs in the home and is just a very good boy. He is even sleeping all through the night in his crate without a sound. While he can get in his own personal crate her prefers to cuddle up with another pug and share one at night. He has a very good appetite and loves treats. He’s picked up on the household routine quickly and while he is great about going outside to potty, he has marked.

Otie likes to lie beside his foster mom or curl up in her lap and watch TV. He is very loving, but not much of a kisser. His foster describes him as a “perfect angel”.

Brutus (# 751) is now 1 year old. As soon as I saw the e-mail about a pug named Brutus needing a foster home due to his current owners kids allergies, I had a feeling that he was just the dog I had been looking for. My husband picked Brutus up in Lexington on the night that he was surrendered to KPR and when he brought him home we opened up his kennel and out rolled the cutest looking ball of fur I had ever seen. Right then and there I looked at my husband and he said we are adopting him aren’t we. He is the sweetest natured dog ever who loves to play but also loves to lay on your lap and sleep. He is defiantly not a watch dog since he can sleep through anything. He is fully potty trained and up to date on all vaccinations. Brutus gets along great with dogs, cats, and kids. My friends and family love Brutus so much that I have people fighting over watching him when we go out of town. Brutus loves to give kisses and is currently learning tricks, he sits great but we are still working on the rest. Brutus is 17 pounds and has a different coloring then most fawn pugs. He has much more black running through his face and his body then most do which truly makes him unique looking. He would be a great addition to any home and I am so lucky to have him as an addition to ours.

Daisy (# 744) is doing great in her foster home, but really wants to find a forever home. This 1 year old pug weighs 22 lbs and is very playful with the older dogs in the foster home and the children. She enjoys being outside and walks great on a leash. The other pug in the home has helped Daisy learn the boundaries of the yard so that she also gets to play without a leash…although sometimes you have to catch her to make her come in. She’ll just look at you from a distance when she isn’t ready to come back in the house, but if she sees the other pug getting petted she’ll come running back so she won’t miss out on any attention or love.

Daisy has chewed on pencils or small objects that are left on the floor, but has left everything else alone. This puppy likes to play fetch with a tennis ball and to lick your face if you are close enough for her to reach. She is a good eater and she watches her foster family while they eat, but she doesn’t beg or bother anyone for food. She has barked at the door when someone knocked (maybe because the other pug did?), but was quiet in the car at Sonic and didn’t bark at the other people or the car hop (unlike the other pug in the home that barks at everyone the first couple of times he meets them).

The vet has identified a floating knee-cap (luxating patella) on her left rear leg, but doesn’t think it is a problem for her currently. This could present a problem for her later in life and is something the adoptive family needs to be aware of. She walks on all 4 legs, but will hold that leg up when she runs.

Daisy is a good girl and she sleeps all night without disturbing anyone. Her foster family kept her in a crate for the first 3 nights since they were not sure how she would behave, but then she started sleeping in the bed with one of their boys. Daisy is just an adorable little puppy that is playful and well-behaved. She is great with children.

What a good boy! Sammy Joe (# 727) is eager to please and loves it when you lavish praise on him. He is a well mannered pug that knows how to “sit” and “lay down”. At night he even puts himself to bed by going right to his crate when it’s time to sleep. He is perfectly content with a chew bone and will sleep in late. What an incredibly smart boy! You’ll have lots of fun teaching this pug new tricks and commands. You’ll also enjoy watching him play with stuffed toys. If you are searching for companionship then you are in luck because this incredibly charming pug wants to be everywhere that you are and is extremely affectionate and generous with his kisses.

Sammy is approx. 2 years old and weighs 21 lbs. He does take 1 generic Zyrtec each day with his supper for allergies, but this is inexpensive and easy to give since he loves treats and has a good appetite. In fact, he gets very excited when it is time to eat.

Harlee (# 739) is a very sweet, young gentleman with the softest, jet black fur. At the age of 13 months and weighing in at just 16 pounds, his puppy energy is extraordinary. Harlee loves to be held and loved on. He knows simple commands such as “sit” and “no” and walks on a leash very well although the puppy in him wants to run further than the leash allows sometimes. He is house broken and in weeks at his fosters has only had one accident.

If you are in a seated position, you can expect him to be with you. He also has an adorable “Elvis” snarl and when he is happy, his little tongue sticks out just a tad. Harlee does not care for a crate at all! He does stay there when the foster family is gone to work and school but at night, he whines until he gets to get in bed with his Foster mother. He just wants to be close and doesn’t cause any problem in the bed. He likes to sleep on his back, with his head on your arm but will also just curl up as closely as he can get to you. Harley loves, and immediately goes to children, but is slow to warm up to strange adults. He gets along great with the other dogs in the foster home but there are no cats so we are sure how he would act around them.

Miss Dixie (# 822) was rescued from a shelter in Southern, Indiana. Since Dixie comes from a shelter, we don’t know her entire background, but that’s ok because her foster home has been enjoying getting to know this sweet little gal. The vet estimates Dixie to be between 8 and 10 years old and she has a cute white muzzle. Her back and rear legs and hips are crippled and she walks on the knuckles of her rear toes. Because of this, she is not walked on pavement as her feet will bleed. Dixie is nearly housebroken and sometimes needs to be carried outside. Her foster mom says that Dixie is very patient and seldom makes a mess while she is waiting to go out. She gets along fairly well with her foster canine friends, but can sometimes get a little crabby when one of the other dogs tries to take her place on a lap while she is getting a little extra attention.

Adopted - March, 2010

James (# 868) is a 5-year-old athletic pug/boston terrier mix that loves to run besides his foster mom when she bikes. She says that James can go for miles. James is a well-behaved, quiet boy. Since he is somewhat food aggressive, his foster mom feeds him by himself and has had no problems. James loves to play outside and responds positively to training.

Meet Bo (# 889), a 3-year old fawn male pug, that was given up by his original owners due to their declining health and inability to take care of him. Since arriving in his KPR foster home, Bo has been the sweetest little guy. He is completely housebroken and has not had a single accident in his foster home. When he has to go out, Bo stands at the door and sings softly with the sweetest voice and wags his curly tail. Bo gets along fine with the other pugs in the foster home, but has not been around cats or kids. Seeing Bo’s personality, we can bet that he wouldn’t mind a home with either!

Bo’s foster mom says that he is very gentle and loving. He did have some trouble breathing at first due to an elongated palate and narrow nostrils, but this has been corrected. Bo has no bad habits that his foster mom has seen. He loves to run around in a fenced yard, but mostly wants to be inside with his foster family. Bo doesn’t show any interest in playing with toys, but he does like to chew on “Busy Bones”.

Bo is very obedient and wants only to please. He responds very well to a kind voice, knows simple commands and is crate trained. Bo has the softest golden fur, weighs in at 21 pounds, and is fit and trim.

Abigail (# 885) is a tenacious, petite 3-year old black female pug. She weighs approximately 15 pounds and is housebroken and crate trained. Abigail enjoys playing with her canine foster brothers and sisters, loves treats and toys and like every other pug, people. She also loves a good tummy rub. Abigail’s wish is for nothing more than a forever home with a place to sleep, a toy or two, and a wonderful human to provide attention.

Doug (# 884) is a one year old male that came to us from a local Indiana animal shelter. He's a sweet little boy with lots of puppy energy who gets along well with everyone, dogs, people, and cats. Doug probably has too much energy for young children, but would most likely do fine in a home with older children who could handle his puppy energy. He's not a big guy, weighing in at only 18 pounds, but he has a big heart, full of love to give. Doug’s a very smart boy who will go to the door and ask to go outside, and is completely housebroken.

Adopted - February, 2010

Brody (# 878) is a 2 year old bundle of sweetness and energy, weighing 20 pounds. Since Brody was dropped off in the night deposit at Fort Wayne Animal Control, we don't know much about his background. Brody was so scared at the shelter that he could not be put out on the adoption floor because he was too frightened to interact with people. It is hard to imagine, but this adorable little boy would have been euthanized if not for KPR, which would have been a travesty because he is so sweet and such a good dog. He is shy in a new situation, but warms up quickly and once he does, he is a love sponge. Brody loves to be held and petted, loves to nap under the covers, loves to cuddle right up on your lap, chest or wherever he can get love. He is also a bundle of puppy energy and his foster mom thinks he might actually be younger than 2. Brody loves to play with other dogs and would do best in a home with another dog to play with to release some of his boundless energy. Not only does Brody need a playmate, but he also needs a canine companion, as he loves to cuddle up with his foster brother. Brody will chase cats but is fantastic with kids. Brody is a smart boy and has been doing well with crate training and is also doing great with housebreaking if kept on a schedule.

Meet Phil (# 880), a sweet little guy that is loving, cute, cautious and loves to be held. Phil comes to KPR from a shelter in Indiana. Since he was picked up as a stray, we don’t know a lot about his past. But, what we do know is that he’s about 1-2 years old and that he’s a very friendly boy with lots of puppy energy. Phil is an averaged sized pug, weighing about 18 pounds. He loves people, other dogs, and gets along fine with cats. Phil would really like a fenced yard to play in and maybe a friend to play with. He's a real sweetie who has done very well on his housebreaking and loves to be the center of attention. Phil will require a little extra care of his mouth, the vet told us he has a lot of extra tissue for food to hide in and get caught. His foster home has been brushing his teeth once a day with toothpaste and a finger and that seems to do the trick.

Pants (# 750) is the most low-maintenance, lovey-dovey, relaxed pup I've ever met. She is a calm and sweet 5 year old. All she wants is to be wherever you are, and to be loved and cuddled. The first night I had her in foster care, I laid down on the couch and she immediately hopped up with me and made herself at home in the crook of my arm. So far in her time with us she has calmly attended a birthday party, behaved beautifully on a one hour car-ride, participated in a photoshoot wearing a party hat (where she held still better than the human subjects), cuddled with everyone she met, and consequently made them all fall in love with her. She calmly and happily follows her humans, and only wants to be next to you, never demanding endless petting or games. But she does love a good belly rub. She also enjoys a good session of tug-of-war with a poor stuffed victim, playing her little heart out and then going right back to a lap.

This little girl is the best dog I have ever met. We are all smitten with her, and she will make anyone want to cuddle her, squeeze her, and love her. She is perfectly potty trained, doesn't chase cats, and gets along great with my pug but has tried to dominate a dog who was larger than her. When she has had the chance to interact with kids, she has been sweet and mellow, as usual.

Shelby (# 745) is a 3 year old pug that is housebroken and does fine being left alone during the day. She gets really excited when her foster family returns home after work. She loves her bed, but also enjoys sleeping in the bed with her human. Her foster mom says that she is a good snuggle pug. She loves walks and going to the horse barn with her foster in the evenings. She is good with other dogs and even cats. Shelby isn’t sure how she feels about horses and so she just stays out of their way. She does get cold easily and so she enjoys wearing her jackets!

While Keegan (# 852) and Kenzie (# 853) are not littermates, they have been together for all of their lives, so we are keeping them together as a bonded pair. This 6-year old pair was surrendered by their owner because they simply did not have enough time for the pugs anymore and wanted them to find a home that could give them the love and attention they deserve.

Keegan is a boy and the ringleader of the pair, but he doesn't cause any friction with the other foster dogs and learns the boundaries fast. Keegan does have some skin allergies that are controlled through a weekly bath. Kenzie is a girl and the more laid back of the two, loves to snuggle and is a foot warmer. When Kenzie's foster mom is working on the computer, you can find her lying on her foster mom's feet, keeping them warm.

Like most pugs, Keegan and Kenzie would prefer to be with their people whenever possible, but they can be left alone in the house with no problems. They are both housebroken and crate trained. They love to play with their foster dog friends, large and small, and get along well with the cats too. Keegan and Kenzie are great with people of all ages, especially kids. They like to lounge around on their doggie pillows, but prefer hanging out on the back of the couch. Both dogs are in excellent health.

Uno (# 732) is a very handsome, approx. 5-6 year old gentleman with the most perfect features. Uno is potty trained, but likes to hike his leg sometimes and needs reinforcement. Luckily, he is newly neutered and has been working on this behavior. He seems to love his crate and will sleep all the way through the night in it. He loves to be near you and he gets along great with children, other dogs, and even cats.

Ladybug (# 743) is eager to settle into a forever home with a family that can devote more time and attention to her. She enjoys exploring outside, taking walks, and rolling around in the grass…but she can also be found hanging out on the back of the couch peering out the window. She even likes to cuddle and watch movies with her foster mom.

This free spirited 8 year old pug is thriving in foster care, but eagerly awaiting the next step in her new life. She loves attention and would benefit from a family that has time to play and take her for walks. She is incredibly inquisitive and energetic. Her foster mom says that she is full of personality and just has a tremendous spirit about her.

Bosley (# 760) is an 18 month old pug that had been kept in a crate and used for breeding, although he isn’t full-blooded. He looks like a pug, but his markings are a bit off and his hair is just a little longer than it should be. It is thought he might have a little Pekingese somewhere in his background. He was kept isolated and was described as “shell shocked” when he was originally rescued. He would just huddle up in the corner away from both people and dogs. He was very isolated and used to only eating scraps. With some patience and understanding Bosley started coming out of shell. He has learned that people are good and is working on his social skills. He is also eating dog food.

Bosley’s fosters now describe him as eager to make friends and enjoying the good life. He is getting along with the other dogs in the home, as well as people (young and old) that come to visit. His marking has decreased a lot and will continue to improve now that he has been neutered. He is going outside to the bathroom. This once scared pug now prefers a human lap to a crate.

Ozzie (# 746) is truly a family oriented dog. This 2 year old takes turns sleeping with his humans on the sofa. He also sleeps in his crate. He used to beg because he never knew when his next meal would be, but now that he is settled into a routine with a family that loves him he has almost quit begging. He is a good boy and never messes in the house. He can be a little aggressive with toys. He thinks they all have his name on them even if another dog picks them up first or is playing with them. The other dogs in the home are passive so Ozzie gets his way. He is even good with cats.

Meet Bobby Boucher (# 866) - named for the character in the movie The Waterboy. Bobby is an 18 month old,  hilarious little goofball who is happy 100 % of the time! He prances around like he is in a show ring commanding everyone in the room to look at him and all you can do is laugh. "Bobbilicious" as his foster family calls him, is absolutely enchanted with any and all stuffed toys. He will chase them, throw them up by tossing his head and then looks at you with that sweet little face expecting you to pick the toy up and give it back to him.

Bobby Boucher must go to a home with another dog (or dogs) willing to play with him since he has a lot of energy and is so playful. He is hilarious and will play till he drops from exhaustion! Bobby seems a bit down when he is not in the company of other dogs, so having a play friend or friends would make him most happy.

You will not need cable if you adopt Bobby, as he is 100% pure entertainment. Bobby hasn't had any accidents in his foster home so far. Bobby has the endearing quality of sticking just a bit of his tongue out when he is looking at you.

McGee (# 873) is a four year old male pug that comes to KPR from a home that could no longer care for him. McGee has never met anyone that he didn't like! He loves cuddling up with anyone who has a space for him and loves to sleep in the bed with whoever has room. McGee gets along well with other dogs and cats, loves children and is housebroken. Overall, we think he is a great guy!!
