Willie ~
Your life will always be a mystery to us. You were picked up by
animal control (it is believed that your owner called to report you)
because you were barking outside an apartment door. Fortunately the
shelter had a KPR contact, so they contacted her and said we have a
very old blind pug that just came in - can KPR help? KPR did help.
You were taken to a vet and treated for an ear infection and your
horrible dental issues (5 of your remaining 10 teeth had to be
pulled) were taken care of.
In May 2006, we started fostering you. We were amazed at how it only
took you a day to learn the layout of our house and just days to fit
into the daily routine. We also learned that not only were you
blind, but you were also deaf. However your sense of smell worked
just fine! You got along great with the rest of the 'Polish Pug
Pack' and worked your way into our hearts. In August we decided to
adopt you because your chances of adoption were slim but more
importantly because we couldn't (and didn't want to) see you living
anywhere else. We loved your easy-going gentle nature and your sweet
white face. Even though you had been discarded by your last owner,
you still trusted human beings. Seeing you wag your tail when I got
home from work erased any misgivings about your past. We just wanted
to make you happy and let you know that you were loved and that
people did care about you.

Sadly you became very ill and left us
for the Rainbow Bridge on November 25, 2006. We will never know how
old you were or the events that brought you to KPR. In the end,
those things don't really matter. What is important is that we were
able to enjoy your sweet personality for six months. You are, and
always will be, a reminder of why pug rescue is so important.

There must be a heaven for the animal friends we love. They are not
human, yet they bring out our own humanity ~ sometimes in ways that
other people cannot. They do not worry about fame or fortune ~
instead they bring our hearts nearer to the joy of simple things.
Each day they teach us little lessons in trust and steadfast
affection. Whatever heaven may be, there's surely a place in it for
friends as good as these.
